음악사에선 고대에서 현대에 이르기까지 그 시대와 사회적인 배경과, 음악가의 생애와 예술에 이르기까지의 음악에 대한 역사적인 기술에 관해 공부한다. 이 과목에선 각 시대의 실제 음악이나 아니면 음악 흐름의 전개와 직접 관련되어 있는 역사상의 기초적인 지식을 강조해서 체계화하고 명백히 하는 데 중점을 둔다. 이런 과정을 통하여 학생들에게 음악의 지적인 연구에 대한 실질적인 도움을 주고, 또한 음악을 듣거나 악보를 상세히 분석하는 일을 위해서도 그러한 훈련들이 모두 효과적으로 적용된다.

Music history studies the historical techniques of music from ancient times to modern times, the social settings, and the lives and arts of musicians. In this subject, the emphasis is placed on organizing and making clear the basic knowledge in the history that is directly related to the development of music flow or actual music from each era. These courses give students practical help with the intelligent study of music, and they also apply effectively for listening to music and analyzing sheet music in detail.
